Michael René Sell is a German artist living and working in Vienna.
His entry into the art world began at a young age through a deep interest in literature and sound. Growing up in a working class household with no connection to the arts, he developed his own methods and pathways to realize the ideas he had in mind. As a teenager, he recorded sounds using a dictation device and arranged them on a computer. In order to perform these compositions live, he began developing his own signs and symbols for different sounds — a way of working that continues to shape his practice today.

Today, Sell isknown as a notation artist, composer, and storyteller of the unseen. He translates silent processes, fleeting moments, and abstract states intomusic, movement, and visual art. Through his own systems of symbols,
signs, and notations, he creates unique mythologies that invite audiences into worlds of sound and imagination.

Since 2024, he has been building his own planet: Planet 173.It is inhabited by 173 creatures inspired by his own character traits, taken to their extremes. On this planet, he experiments freely, blending music, dance, storytelling, and visual art into immersive performances
and thematic installations.

His exhibitions are presented internationally, offering audiences the opportunity to experience his work in person, discover their favoritenotations, and take home a piece of his ever-evolving artistic universe.
